Wednesday our first rainy day

 Since the forecast was for rain all day, we headed into Kalispell to the REI so Rob could replace his hiking boots. We drove ( in the van ) up to WhiteFish and the on to the remote destination of Polebridge, 22 miles from the Canadian border. We stopped for lunch at the Northern Lights saloon, which is about all that is there besides a Mercantile and campground. 

Week 2 - Tuesday

Today we headed back to the East entrance and traveled back west on the Going-to-the-Sun Rd, making a few stops and enjoying the vistas from the other vantage.  Monument at the continental divide. Near the east entrance is Glacier Park Lodge “Big Tree Lodge” which was the first hotel built by the Great Northern Railway.  Inside the historic hotel, Douglas Fir logs tower over the lobby,   One of the 24 glaciers in the park - Jackson glacier.  The clear water as we kayaked along the shore of Mc Donald lake.  One of several waterfalls along the road

Our first week

 Our western adventure begins! We left home on Saturday 8/19 and spent our first night at the cabin which was a lovely evening. The weather was warm and balmy, so we took the pontoon boat out for a ride.  Sunday morning we got an early start and after traveling across upper Minnesota we arrived at our first campsite at Turtle River State Park, ND. It was a very nice State park, we pulled our bikes out and rode a few miles around the park. It felt great to get a little exercise after sitting all day.   Monday and Tuesday we continued our travels across North Dakota. and into Montana.  I thought Illinois and Iowa were flat, but they don't compare to the plains of ND and Montana. I swear we could see Canada to the north! Our Hostess at our next campsite (Buffalo trails in Williston ND) was very nice and inquired where our next stop would be.
